Kessingland was once the richest village in England at the height of the herring fishing industry. Our ancestors worked in the fishing industry. Now it is a medium sized village (population about 4000) and is known as a quiet seaside holiday destination, with a range of accommodation ranging from camping and caravans, to chalets, bungalows, houses and cottages. Village shops and facilities include a Post Office, newsagent, chemist, petrol station and small supermarket. A major supermarket at Lowestoft is about a 3 mile drive away. There are fish and chip and Chinese takeaways, four pubs and two restaurants. It is a short walk to the Waterfront Restaurant and the Sailors Home pub, serving local Ales and fresh food.
