The average temperature for October - 13.2C (55.8F) - has been the highest since records began in 1659, beating the previous best set in 1969.
Cambridge set a new record temperature for the hottest ever 30 September with 29.2C (84.5F), beating the 27.8C (82F) set in Maidenhead, Berkshire in 1908.
Kew Gardens in west London set another record on Thursday with 28.8C (83.8F) - the highest ever 29 September temperature, beating the mark of 27.8C (82F) set in York in 1895.
