I am the very pleased owner of a brand new, shiny Kayak. It's something I have been threatening to do for ages but never got round to... So I thought I would write about my Kayak adventures and who knows maybe inspire others to take the plunge!... My Kayaking buddy Sam injured her arm on our very first adventure... and I was feeling slightly guilty, so though I should come up with a cunning plan to have a proper adventure without quite such a grueling physical component...
The plan was to park one car on the way at Lake Road in Hamworthy and drive to the historic, Saxon walled town of Wareham and launch into the river at the town's main bridge. Then to paddle the 5 miles back to the first car using the flow of the river and the tide flowing out of Poole Harbour .
The plan worked perfectly! It took 3 and a 1/2 hours to do the 5 miles from Wareham bridge to Hamworthy. While the uncharacteristically warm March sunshine warmed our backs we were treated by lovely slowly meandering river banks and reeds going though into Poole Harbour with deserted warm sandy beaches and cliffs with a multitude of wildlife and all kinds of river and seafaring craft. The few people that we encountered were so friendly and considerate it made a lovely change from the rat race of our congested roads. The only bad part of it was that dispite taking 3 and 1/2 hours it was over all too quickly! Never mind, I can't wait to do it again!!
